Equipment

  • Air Fryer The star appliance for mess-free churros.
  • Piping Bag with Star Tip For creating classic churro ridges.
  • Electric Hand Mixer For smoothly incorporating the egg.

Ingredients

  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence
  • 1 cup plain all-purpose flour
  • 0.33 cup + 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon powder
  • 1 cup white sugar (for coating)

Instructions

  • In a pan, combine water, butter, salt, and sugar. Bring to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, reduce heat and gradually add flour, stirring continuously until dough forms a smooth ball and pulls away from the pan. Remove from heat.
  • Transfer dough to a bowl and let cool for 4-5 minutes. Add egg and vanilla, then beat with an electric mixer until smooth and fully combined.
  • Preheat air fryer to 375°F. Spray basket with nonstick spray. Transfer dough to a piping bag with a star tip. Pipe bite-sized churros into basket, leaving space between each. Brush with melted butter.
  • Air fry for 10-12 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Cook in batches if needed.
  • In a shallow bowl, mix sugar and cinnamon. Add warm churros and toss gently to coat evenly.
  • Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauces like chocolate sauce, Nutella, or caramel. Enjoy!

Notes

Pro Tips: The key to perfect churro dough is cooking the flour thoroughly on the stove – stir until it forms a smooth ball that pulls away from the pan. Cool the dough for 4-5 minutes before adding the egg to prevent it from cooking. Don't overcrowd the air fryer basket; cook in batches for even crispiness. For the best coating, roll the churros in cinnamon sugar while they're still warm. If making ahead, store the dough in the fridge for up to 24 hours.
