Equipment

  • Wooden or Metal Skewers Soak wooden ones first!
  • Rimmed Baking Sheet Essential for even baking.

Ingredients

  • 1 bag (32 oz) frozen tater tots
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or melted butter
  • 0.5 tsp garlic powder
  • 0.5 tsp paprika
  • to taste salt and black pepper
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar or cheese blend
  • 6 slices bacon, cooked crisp and crumbled
  • 3 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 0.5 cup sour cream, for serving

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet. Soak wooden skewers (if using). In a bowl, toss frozen tater tots with oil, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  • Thread the seasoned tater tots onto the skewers, leaving space between each. Place in a single layer on the baking sheet.
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway, until the tots are crispy and golden brown on all sides.
  • Remove from oven. Sprinkle shredded cheese evenly over each skewer. Return to oven for 3-5 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Immediately top the cheesy skewers with crumbled bacon and green onions. Let cool for 1 minute. Serve warm with sour cream for dipping.

Notes

Pro Tips: For the best results, soak wooden skewers in water for 20+ minutes before using to prevent burning. Shred your own cheese from a block for the smoothest, best-melting coverage. To make ahead, assemble the seasoned tot skewers on the baking sheet, cover, and refrigerate for up to 4 hours before baking as directed.
