Equipment

  • Heart-Shaped Cookie Cutter (2-3 inch)
  • Parchment Paper For easy cleanup and preventing sticking.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 0.75 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.75 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 2.25 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Cream softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then vanilla.
  • Whisk flour, baking soda, and salt in a separate bowl. Gradually add to wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Fold in chocolate chips.
  • Divide dough in half, shape into discs, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Roll out chilled dough to ¼" thick. Cut out hearts with floured cutter. Place on parchment-lined sheets.
  • Bake for 9-11 minutes until edges are lightly golden. Cool on sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

Notes

Pro Tips: For cookies that hold their perfect heart shape, chilling the dough is mandatory. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before rolling and cutting. Roll the dough to a consistent ¼-inch thickness for even baking. Dip your heart-shaped cookie cutter in flour between cuts to prevent sticking.
