Equipment

  • 9-inch Square Metal Baking Pan Essential for even baking and proper texture.

Ingredients

  • 0.75 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 0.75 cup (1.5 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 bottle (1 oz) green liquid food coloring
  • 1.5 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 0.125 tsp salt
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 1.5 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 0.125 tsp salt

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9-inch square metal pan with foil, leaving an overhang. Grease foil.
  • Microwave chocolate chips and butter in 30-sec bursts until melted and smooth. Cool slightly. Whisk in sugar, then eggs one at a time.
  • Gently stir in flour, the entire bottle of green food coloring, baking powder, 1 tsp vanilla, and ⅛ tsp salt until just combined.
  • Pour batter into pan. Bake 44-48 mins, until a toothpick inserted has a few moist crumbs. Cool completely in pan on a rack (2 hrs).
  • Beat softened cream cheese and 3 tbsp butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and ⅛ tsp salt. Beat in 1 tsp vanilla.
  • Lift cooled brownie from pan using foil. Peel off foil. Spread frosting evenly over top. Chill 20-30 mins for clean cuts, then slice into 16 squares.

Notes

Pro Tips: For the signature vibrant green marbling, you must use the entire 1-ounce bottle of green liquid food coloring specified in the recipe. For the best texture, use a metal baking pan and ensure your eggs and dairy are at room temperature. To get clean frosting cuts, chill the frosted brownie slab for 20-30 minutes before slicing with a hot, clean knife.
