Equipment

  • Rolling Pin For flattening the bread.
  • Sharp Knife For removing crusts.
  • Non-Stick Skillet For frying the roll-ups.
  • Shallow Bowl For the egg coating.

Ingredients

  • 10 slices soft white sandwich bread
  • 3 tbsp butter, melted
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon (for filling)
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • 0.5 tsp ground cinnamon (for coating)
  • 0.5 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 to 3 tbsp butter, for frying
  • Powdered sugar and maple syrup, for serving

Instructions

  • Remove crusts from bread slices. Using a rolling pin, flatten each slice gently but firmly.
  • In a small bowl, mix melted butter, brown sugar, and 2 tablespoons cinnamon until smooth.
  • Spread the filling evenly on each bread slice, leaving a small border at the edges. Roll up each slice tightly and gently press the edge to seal.
  • In a shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, ½ teaspoon cinnamon, and vanilla until combined.
  • Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add 2-3 tablespoons butter. Dip each roll in the egg mixture, coating all sides. Place seam-side down in the skillet.
  • Cook for 2-3 minutes total, rotating to brown all sides evenly, until golden brown and cooked through.
  • Serve immediately dusted with powdered sugar and with maple syrup for dipping.

Notes

Pro Tips: Use fresh, soft white bread for the best pliability. Flatten the bread with a rolling pin for easier, tighter rolling. Don't oversoak the roll-ups in the egg mixture – a quick dip is all you need. Cook them seam-side down first to help seal the edge. Maintain medium heat for even, golden browning without burning. These roll-ups can be made ahead and reheated, or even frozen for up to a month!
