Equipment

  • Double Boiler or Heatproof Bowl For gently melting chocolate.
  • Parchment Paper Essential for non-stick setting.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb fresh strawberries (with stems)
  • 8 oz high-quality chocolate (dark, milk, or white)
  • 1 tsp coconut oil or shortening (optional)
  • Assorted toppings: nuts, sprinkles, etc. (optional)

Instructions

  • Gently rinse strawberries and pat completely dry with paper towels. Let air-dry for 30 minutes on a towel. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Chop chocolate into small pieces. Melt using a double boiler or microwave, stirring until smooth. If using, stir in coconut oil.
  • Holding a berry by the stem, dip into chocolate, swirl to coat ¾ of the way up. Let excess drip off.
  • If adding toppings, immediately roll or sprinkle the wet chocolate. Place berry on parchment paper to set.
  • Once all are dipped, refrigerate tray for 15-20 minutes until chocolate is completely firm.

Notes

Pro Tips: The single most important step is to ensure your strawberries are completely dry before dipping; any moisture will cause the chocolate to seize. Use high-quality chocolate bars or melting wafers, not chocolate chips, for the smoothest melt and shiniest finish. For an extra glossy coat and easier dipping, stir 1 tsp of coconut oil into the melted chocolate.
